Session activation methods

As the owner of one or more Smappee EV charging stations, you want to have control over who is allowed to charge at your charging station.

There are 3 different session activation methods

  1. Unauthenticated charging -> without a charging card
The charging station is freely accessible without any form of authorisation, identification or control.
Anyone can plug their car into the charger and start charging for free.

  2. Authenticated charging -> with a charging card
    • Whitelisting
Charging is free when you use your Smappee Smart Charge Card or any other RFID card that has been added to your whitelist.
After plugging in the charging cable, the user simply swipes the RFID card and the charging session starts.
All RFID cards must be authorized in advance by adding them to the whitelist through the app or the dashboard.

    • Split billing:
This allows employees to charge their company car at home and receive reimbursement for their electricity use.
A separate split billing agreement must be set up for each employee.Starting a charging session works the same way as whitelisting.
Plugging in the charging cable, the user simply swipes the RFID card and the charging session starts.
At the end of each month, Smappee Services sends one bill to the company covering all employee charging sessions.
Employees are then reimbursed based on the number of kWh they have charged.
For more details, see here : Split Billing – Support
    • Public charging
Other EV drivers can use this charging station and pay with a Smappee Smart Charge Card or an RFID card from a third-party eMSP.
Public charging can be managed through Smappee’s own CPO platform or via a third-party CPO (other CPMS platform).
See here for more information : Public Charging Stations (CPO) – Support

  3. Scan and charge -> with a credit or debit card
Users can start charging by scanning a QR code and pay with a debit or credit card (Visa or Mastercard) through the Smappee app.
They scan the QR code displayed on the charging station, and the app guides them step by step to start the charging session.
This option is only available when public charging is activated via Smappee’s own CPO platform.

How to choose a session activation method

By default, Smappee charging stations are set to Unauthenticated charging.

To see which 'Session Activation Methods' are active, login to the Smappee Dashboard   (https://dashboard.smappee.net)
Select the board "EV Line or Chargers" from the menu on the left.
Navigate down to the card "Charger configuration" :

Here, you can edit the active 'Session Activation Methods'

1// choose between unauthenticated or authenticated charging
-> with or without a card

2// choose whitelisting, split billing, or public charging
-> all three options can be used at the same time.

3// No public charging, public charging through Smappee Services CPO or Public charging via another CPMS platform
-> only one option can be selected.

Notes:

After adding an RFID Token to the whitelisting or agreeing to a Split billing contract,
all chargers from the charging square will automatically be set to that session activation method.

The different session activation methods can be combined.
If all Authenticated Charging methods are activated and a card is swiped,
it will be prioritised in this order: Split Billing, Whitelist, Public charging.
So if someone swipes a card which is on the whitelist AND activated for public charging, it will be treated as a whitelist card.

Public charging and Scan & charge is only applicable for charging stations owned by companies with a valid VAT number. A payment package is needed for the option.
Charging stations owned by private individuals cannot be used to earn money.
Only Split Billing is possible without a VAT number as this is considered a reimbursement and not earnings.

Attention:
If your session activation method is public charging via other SPMS platform, you need to remove the RFID-token from the whitelisting !
