To make your charging station accessible to third parties, you need to activate the Charge Point Operator (CPO) function.
This will make your charger publicly available, allowing others to use it—and you'll earn a payout for each charging session.
When public charging is enabled, people will be able to pay for their charging sessions on your Smappee charging stations using either
- a Charging card
- by scanning the QR code
Before doing so, you'll first need to register as a charging host.
You can easily complete this registration yourself by filling out our online form.

Just follow these steps:
- Link a user account that can be used as an administrator for the organisation, this can either be your existing login or creation of a new login
- Create a New Organisation (or select an existing organisation, if you have already registered for split billing or public charging cards)
- Complete your Company Legal Information
- Complete your Company administrative information
- Agree with the General Terms & Conditions
- Agree with a Direct Debit Mandate
- Select which Services you want to activate (Business Charging incl. CPO, Split Billing or Public charging), you can select multiple options
- Select your existing charging station(s) where you want to apply business charging.
- Confirmation of your registration
Once done, CPO will be linked automatically to the charging station(s) at your location.
Everything is now ready to :
- Enable public charging
- Set up your pricing policy

Note:
Opening your charging station for public use is only allowed if it is owned by a company with a valid VAT number, as this constitutes a commercial activity.
Charging stations owned by private individuals cannot be used to generate profit.
Only Split Billing is permitted without a VAT number, as this is considered a reimbursement rather than an commercial activity.
Note :
Once public charging is enabled, users will be able to pay for their charging sessions at your Smappee charging stations using either
- A Charging card - this is fully automatic and requires no other action from your side.
- By scanning the QR code – this method requires a manual setup, which you’ll still need to complete.
