Infinity system: Power Box, CT Hub or Solid Core not found

Your energy monitor is online, but there are no measurements, or only part of them. This usually means a Power Box, CT Hub or Solid Core is not found. Here is how to find and fix the cause.

This article applies to energy monitoring installations with a Smappee Connect (5130), Wi-Fi Connect (5110), 4G Connect (5140) or Genius (5010) with a Power Box, and to the Genius Flex (5200 / 5210).

Not for: the Smappee P1 (no Power Box or CT Hubs) and charging stations. For a charging station, see Not all the EV Line components are being detected.

Safety: The checks below are done in the electrical cabinet. Only a qualified installer should carry them out.

How the modules are connected

The gateway (Connect or Genius) is connected to the Power Box with an RJ10 cable. This connection is called the B-bus. The CT Hubs and Solid Cores are connected to the Power Box in a chain, also with RJ10 cables. That chain is called the A-bus. If a cable or module in this chain fails, the modules behind it are not found and their measurements stop.

The Genius Flex works differently: it has no separate Power Box. The CT Hubs and Solid Cores are connected directly to the A-bus port of the Genius Flex. See Genius Flex below.

Which modules are found?

In the Smappee app, open the Infinity Modules view: a module that is not found shows a red triangle. Installers can also see the module list in the Smappee Dashboard. Compare the list with the modules that are physically installed.

Note: A module that was replaced can stay in the list as "not found". That is normal and not a fault. Is a charging station module (Signalboard or AC charge controller) listed on your monitor? Then a charging station was wired into the monitoring installation. The charging station must be disconnected and installed as its own installation.

Situation 1: Power Box not found

Look at the light between port A and port B on the Power Box. When everything works, it gives a short green blink about every 3 seconds.

There is a light on the Power Box

  1. Light blinks very fast: the power supply of the Power Box is most likely not OK. Check the supply.
  2. Light blinks normally: check the RJ10 cable between the Power Box and the gateway. It must click in fully on both ends and be undamaged. Reconnect it.
  3. Gateway still shows no light? Contact support (see below).

There is no light on the Power Box

Either no power reaches the Power Box, or a defective module causes a short circuit on the bus.

  1. Measure the power supply to the Power Box and fix it if needed.
  2. Power supply OK? Disconnect the CT Hubs and Solid Cores from the Power Box. Light comes back? Then one of those modules is defective: reconnect them one by one to find which one (see Situation 2, step 2).
  3. Still no light? Also disconnect the gateway. Still no light on the Power Box: the Power Box is defective. Light comes back, but the gateway stays dark after reconnecting: the gateway is defective.

The total length of the B-bus cable must stay under 100 meters.

Situation 2: No CT Hub or Solid Core found

  1. Check the RJ10 cables between the Power Box and the first CT Hub or Solid Core, and between the modules in the chain. They must be firmly seated, without bent or missing pins. Replace any cable you are not sure about. Then check again whether the modules are found.
  2. Look for a defective module. One defective module can block the whole chain. Disconnect all CT Hubs and Solid Cores, then reconnect them one by one and check after each one whether they are found. The module that makes the chain drop is defective.
  3. Check the limits. The total length of the A-bus cable must stay under 100 meters, and one gateway handles at most 28 channels (see Situation 3).

Situation 3: Some CT Hubs or Solid Cores not found

Part of the chain still works, so the problem is usually the missing module itself or its cable. Circuits on the modules that are still found keep measuring.

  1. Find the missing module. Compare the serial numbers in the module list with the modules on site, and check that the missing module is really connected in the chain.
  2. Check its power LED. CT Hub: the LED at CT port 1. Solid Core: the LED at the opening for the phase wire.
LED on: the module has power. Contact support if it is still not found.
LED off: replace the RJ10 cable to this module with a cable you know works. LED comes on: the cable was defective. LED stays off: the module is defective.
  3. Check the channel budget. One gateway handles at most 28 channels. A CT Hub uses 4 channels, a Solid Core 3. One channel is one CT clamp. Modules beyond that limit are not found. That is not a fault: more channels need a multi-gateway setup.
  4. Enough channels for your measurements? All modules found but not enough channels for the CT clamps you want to use? Then an extra CT Hub or Solid Core is needed.

Genius Flex: CT Hub or Solid Core not found

The Genius Flex has the Power Box built in. In the module list you therefore see a Power Box with almost the same serial number as the Genius Flex, only the first digits differ (for example Genius Flex 5200000887 and Power Box 5400000887). That is normal.

  1. Check that no separate Power Box is connected. This happens when an older monitor was replaced by a Genius Flex and the old Power Box was left in place. A separate Power Box is not shown in the module list, but it stops the measurements. Remove it.
  2. Check the RJ10 cables from the A-bus port of the Genius Flex, through the CT Hubs and Solid Cores, to the closing plug in the last module. They must be firmly seated, without bent or missing pins.
  3. Check the channel budget: at most 28 channels. A CT Hub uses 4 channels, a Solid Core 3.
  4. Several CT Hubs and not sure where the problem is? Connect only one CT Hub directly to the Genius Flex and check whether it is found. Then add the others one by one to find the cable or module that causes the problem.

All modules found, but the measurements are still wrong?

Then the connection is fine, but the measurement setup needs a check. See Validating the measurements of your Smappee monitor.

A module is defective, or the cause is still unclear

Contact Smappee support via smappee.com/support. Make sure the gateway is online, and include:

  • the serial number of the gateway, and of the module that is not found or defective
  • which checks you did and their result (power supply, cables, one-by-one test, LEDs)
