If your internal network uses a firewall, apply the settings below so your Smappee device can connect to the Smappee Cloud.
Recommended configuration
| Direction | Setting |
|---|---|
| Inbound | Close all inbound ports. No port forwarding is needed. |
| Outbound | Allow outbound connections. |
The device always opens the connection to the cloud itself, so you never need to open any inbound ports.
Restricted environments (allow list)
If your IT policy only lets traffic through to approved destinations, allow outbound traffic to the following:
| Destination | Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
*.smappee.net | 443 | TCP | Smappee Cloud communication |
*.amazonaws.com | 443 | TCP | Cloud services |
*.ntp.org | 123 | UDP | Time synchronisation |
time.aws.com | 123 | UDP | Time synchronisation |
time.cloudflare.com | 123 | UDP | Time synchronisation |
Important: The device needs at least one time server (NTP) to set its clock correctly. If it cannot sync its time, secure connections to the cloud may fail, and the module can appear offline or show missing or misaligned data. Allowing two time servers is highly recommended for high availability.
Troubleshooting
- Make sure mobile data is switched off on your phone.
- Make sure location services are switched on on your phone.
- Double-check your password and SSID.
- Double-check that your smartphone is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network, not to a hotspot or another network where you have a password saved.
