AC charge controller + RFID not found

The module "AC charge controller + RFID" (Signalboard, often called the RFID reader) is shown in red, or is missing from the modules of your charging station. Here is how to fix it.

This article applies to:

  • EV Wall (6230 / 6231), EV One (6531), EV Base (6030 / 6031)
  • EV Wall Business V3 (6120 / 6121), EV One Business V3 (6522)
  • EV Wall Home V3 (6220 / 6221), EV One Home V3 (6521)
  • EV Base V3 (6020 / 6021)

What does this mean?

"AC charge controller + RFID" is the name in the app and Dashboard for the Signalboard: the board inside the charger that reads RFID cards and controls the charging (for example the charging speed). often called the RFID reader.

While it is not found:

  • the charger cannot start a charging session
  • RFID cards are not read
  • settings cannot be changed remotely
  • smart charging and overload protection do not work
  • the LED brightness of the RFID reader cannot be changed

On an EV Base, each connector has its own AC charge controller + RFID. Only the connector of the missing module is affected.

First: check the modules in the app

Open the Smappee app and go to Settings > Charging stations, tap your charging station and look at its modules.

What you see Go to
The AC charge controller + RFID is red. When you tap it, a new serial number is shown A replacement module is connected but not linked yet: Solution 2
Two AC charge controller + RFID modules are listed: one found, one not found The old module stays listed after a replacement. That is normal, as long as the new one is found
The AC charge controller + RFID is red, no new serial number Solution 1

Solution 1: Reseat the 12-pin cable

The AC charge controller + RFID is connected to the relay board inside the charger with a black 12-pin cable. The cable is thick, but the connectors are fragile. If the cable is not fully seated, or was bent during installation, the module is not found.

Safety: This step is done inside the charging station. Only a qualified installer should carry it out.
  1. Switch off the power to the charger.
  2. Open the charger and find the 12-pin cable between the relay board and the AC charge controller + RFID board.
  3. Disconnect the black 12-pin cable.
  4. Reconnect it straight. Push it in fully and evenly on both sides, without angling the cable.
  5. Close the charger and switch the power back on. The charger searches for all its modules again.
  • EV Wall: the connector on the relay board side is harder to reach. Take extra care to push it in fully and straight.
  • EV Base: each connector has its own cable. Check both, even if only one connector is affected.

Expected result: the AC charge controller + RFID is shown as found in the app, and a charging session can be started to test this.

Solution 2: Link the replacement module in the app

Use this when a new serial number was shown after tapping the AC charge controller + RFID. You need an installer account with access to the location.

  1. Open the Smappee app and go to the location of the charging station.
  2. Go to Settings > Charging stations and select the charging station.
  3. Select the AC charge controller + RFID.
  4. Select the new serial number and confirm the replacement.
  5. Check that the new module is shown as found. A charging session can be started to test this.
