In some cases it is sadly not possible the repair the EV Wall Home or EV One Home by swapping a single component.
Although we wish to prevent this as much as possible, there are circumstances where we it necessary to replace the complete product.
Possible reasons why you would need to replace a complete charger:
- The problem is too complex or might come from multiple components which would be too time consuming if you swap them one by one
- There has been a short-circuit breaking multiple electronics
- The charger has extreme physical damage beyond repair
- The module that needs replacement is too complex to replace
Basically in this article we will
- Replace the EV Wall Home or EV One Home with the updated variant. (Which will require a separate Infinity installation) (You can recognise the new variant by the additional C in the article code)
- Reuse the Connect and CT Hub together with a new Smappee Power Box to install as a Infinity
Warranty
If you wish to do the replacement under warranty, make sure you have a RMA ticket (see Smappee RMA flow)
If the product you are replacing does not fall under warranty you can still perform the procedure by manually buying and following the procedure as mentioned below.
Requirements
- Keep the EV Wall/One Home charging station as is (Do not delete) we will reuse it.
- Smappee App
- Smappee Power Box (I1-VAC-1) (also needs a fuse per installation manual)
- Depending on which Home product you are replacing, either one of these charging stations
- EVWC-332-BR-E-B, EV Wall Black
- EVWC-332-C8R-E-B, EV Wall Black with Cable
- EVWC-332-BR-E-W, EV Wall White
- EVWC-332-C8R-E-W, EV Wall White with Cable
- EVOC-332-B-E-B
This article will explain 2 variants to do the replacement the Home charging station each with their own additional requirements:
Replacement A - Internet on Ethernet wire to the charging station
- Separate fuse for Smappee Power box
- Internet for the Connect in the fuse box
- Internet on the Ethernet wire for the Connect inside the charging station
Replacement B - Modbus on Ethernet wire to the charger
- Separate fuse for Smappee Power box
- Internet at the fuse box for 2 Connects (can be Wi-Fi or Ethernet)
Replacement A - Internet on Ethernet wire to the charging station
- Make sure you meet the requirements as mentioned above
- For this procedure you need to make sure the ethernet wire going to the charging station is not linked to the splitter (bus communication) anymore but actually has a internet connection.
A - Replacing the charging station itself (Connect inside charging station)
- Dismount the charging station from the wall
- Install the new charging station (as per installation manual)
- As per requirement of this replacement flow the Ethernet cable should now have internet, link this to the Smappee Connect inside the Station.
- Navigate to the EV Wall/One Home location in the App
- Add the new charging station as a 2nd charging station
- Follow the installation instructions in the App to install and activate the charging station (Smappee App - Installing and activating a Smappee Charger)
A - Installing Infinity
- Replace the Splitter in the fuse box by the Smappee Power Box.
- B-Port goes to the Connect (of the old charger)
- A-Port goes to the CT Hubs (of the old charger)
- See Infinity manual on how to place this Power Box.
Replacement B - Modbus on Ethernet wire to the charging station
- Make sure you meet the requirements as mentioned above
- To completely follow the procedure, our support team must unlink the Connect of the old charging station
B - Replacing the charging station itself (Connect placed in fusebox)
- Dismount the charging station from the wall
- Unlink everything from the old splitter (but keep the ethernet wire connected, we will reuse the splitter)
- Install the new charging station (as per installation manual)
- Link the Connect of the new Charger to the B-Port of the (old) splitter (Optional: you can also replace the old splitter with the new splitter that comes with the new charging station, see the installation part via Wi-Fi in the manual)
- The ethernet cable must linked to the ethernet port relayboard of station (like you did with the Home product)
B - Installing Infinity
- If all went well the Connect of the new charging station will be connected to the splitter
- Place the Smappee Power Box close or next to the splitter in the Fuse box
- B-Port goes to the Connect (of the old charger)
- A-Port goes to the CT Hubs (of the old charger)
- See Infinity manual on how to place this Power Box.
End result
- If all went well you should have your old EV Wall/One home location in the app with 2 chargers.
- Your energy measurements should still arrive (and you will keep your data)
- You license will still be the Classic license that came with the EV Wall/One Home.
