How to give a Smappee device a fixed IP address, and which method applies to which product.
By default, a Smappee device receives its IP address automatically from the DHCP server of the router. This works in almost every network and needs no configuration.
A fixed IP address is only needed when the network policy requires it, for example in a company network with a managed firewall. How to set it depends on the product.

Smappee Genius
On the Smappee Genius, a fixed IP can be set on the device itself.
- Open the expert portal of the monitor. See How to access the monitor's expert portal
- Go to the Networking page.
- Enter the fixed IP settings provided by the network administrator and save.
Note: Ask the network administrator for the address to use. It must be free, unique in the network, and outside the range the router hands out automatically. An address that is already in use, or inside the automatic range, can make the device unreachable.
Smappee Connect and EV Line products
On these products there is no option to set a fixed IP on the device itself. The MAC address has to be reserved on the network side, which gives the same result: the device always receives the same IP address.
- Contact the IT administrator of the network where the products are installed.
- Ask them to reserve a fixed IP address for each device on the DHCP server. They will need the MAC address of every product.
- To obtain the MAC addresses, contact Smappee Support and provide the serial numbers of the products.
Note: A DHCP reservation is the recommended approach in managed networks, also for products that support a fixed IP on the device. The router stays in control of the address, so nothing has to be reconfigured on the device if the network changes.
