A Smappee charging station or energy monitor is linked to a location in the Smappee app, not to a person. To hand it over, the current owner shares the location with the new owner, makes them owner, and then leaves the location. The installation keeps working during the transfer.
This article applies to all Smappee charging stations and energy monitors.
Which situation applies to you?

For the current owner
Before you hand over: stop or change what is linked to you
Some settings and contracts keep running after you leave the location. Check these first:
| What | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Split billing | The agreement keeps running until your employer ends it. | Ask your employer to end the agreement. See What happens to my charging station when my employer stops our split billing agreement? (your employer can use How to end a split billing agreement) |
| Public charging (charger set public) | The charger stays public and keeps accepting paid sessions. | Stop public charging. See How to cancel a Pricing Policy and end the CPO Service? |
| Your RFID cards on the whitelist | A card stays accepted on this charger as long as it is on the whitelist. | Remove your own cards: via the app or via the Dashboard |
| Your Smappee public charging card | The card is linked to your account, not to the charger. | Nothing to do, it stays with you. |
Share the location and hand it over
You need the email address of the new owner. They do not need to prepare anything.
- Open the Smappee app and go to Settings.
- Tap the location name at the top of the page.
- Tap Share this location and enter the email address of the new owner.
- In the share options, choose to make the new user the owner of the location, then confirm.
- The new owner receives an email and confirms within 7 days. If they do not have a Smappee account yet, they are asked to create one.
- Check with the new owner that they can see the location in their app.
- Leave the location: go to Settings, tap the location name, scroll down and tap Leave this location. This cannot be undone.

For the new owner
The charger keeps the settings and the whitelist of the previous owner. Check these once the location is yours:
- Whitelist: remove RFID cards you do not know, and add your own. See How to activate whitelisting on my charging station via the app.
- Charger settings: check the charging speed, smart charging and schedules, and set them the way you want. See How to set up smart charging in the Smappee app?
- Installer access: you decide whether an installer can see your installation. See How to grant or revoke installer access?
The previous owner cannot be reached
Contact Smappee support via smappee.com/support. Support can contact the previous owner or the installer linked to the installation to arrange the transfer. Please include:
- the serial number of the charging station or energy monitor (on the label)
- the address of the installation
- the email address of your Smappee account
