Connect your Smappee charger with another CPMS platform

You would like your employer to reimburse the costs of charging your company car at home.
There are several ways to do this.
Which option is available to you depends on your employer and/or leasing company.

How does it work?
Every charging station is connected to a CPO (Charge Point Operator).
This is the platform that manages the charging station, records the charging sessions and handles the payments.
The choice of CPO determines how the reimbursement works.

Option 1 – Split billing via Smappee Services
Your employer subscribes to the split billing service from Smappee Services, and you charge at home using the Smappee charging card.
Smappee Services invoices your employer monthly for your charging sessions, plus a subscription fee of €5 per month. Once your employer has paid, Smappee Services pays out the amount of your charging sessions to your private bank account.

Option 2 – Via your employer’s CPO
If your employer works with its own CPO, your charging station can be connected to it directly, provided that this platform is compatible with Smappee.
You can find the overview of compatible platforms here: Which third-party CPMS is compatible?
(Note: CPMS / CSMS (Charge Point / Charging Station Management System) is the software, i.e. the platform the CPO uses to manage charging stations.)
Please check with this CPO:

  • whether they support a connection via a Host URL (a link starting with ws:// or wss://);
  • whether they can provide you with that URL;
  • whether you are already registered with them. This is required before the connection can be made.

Please note: you always need the platform’s own, correct URL. You cannot simply copy an example URL.

Option 3 – Via another CPO (other CPMS platform)
If your employer’s CPO is not compatible, you can choose another CPO yourself that is, for example E-Flux or Mobiflow.
Your charging station then becomes semi-public. This does not mean that anyone can charge at your home: only the charging cards you approve will be accepted.
You can simply keep using your employer’s charging card. This works thanks to roaming: the CPO also accepts charging cards from other providers, just like at a public charging station on the road.
In practice:

  • You sign a contract online with the CPO of your choice (e.g. E-Flux or Mobiflow). A subscription fee may apply. They will ask for details about you, your charging station and card and your employer.
  • You set the price per kWh yourself. It is best to align it with what your employer reimburses.
  • You charge at home with your employer’s charging card. The CPO pays you out periodically to your private bank account.

For your employer, such a charging session looks like a public charging session, even though it takes place at home.
We therefore recommend checking in advance whether your employer or leasing company accepts this, and at what rate.

In practice: connecting your charging station (for options 2 and 3)
You will receive a Host URL from the CPO.
In the Smappee Dashboard, change your charging station’s setting from “Smappee Services” to “other CPMS platform” and enter that URL.

The CPO will then establish the connection.
From then on, the CPO records your charging sessions, invoices your employer and pays you out.

Good to know
For options 2 and 3, everything related to invoicing and payouts is handled by this CPO. Smappee only ensures that your charging station is compatible and can be connected.
