Offline charging decides whether your charging station keeps charging when it loses its connection with Smappee, and at which current.
Your charging station normally gets its instructions from the Smappee cloud: which charging mode to use, how much current is available, which RFID cards are allowed. When that connection is lost, the charger can no longer receive these instructions. The Offline charging setting decides what the charger does in that situation.
Note: Offline charging cannot be set on the EV Wall V4, EV One V4 and EV Dual yet.
When does a charger go offline?
- The Connect of the charger has no internet connection (Wi-Fi, Ethernet or 4G problem).
- The Connect of the energy monitor that measures your grid connection is offline. Even if the charger itself is online, it no longer receives the grid measurements it needs for smart charging.

What happens while the charger is offline?

In both cases:
- Smart charging does not work. The charger does not follow solar charging, schedules or other smart charging settings while offline.
- Only the last 10 RFID cards used on this charger are accepted.
Should offline charging be allowed or disabled?
- Allowed is the right choice when you always want to be able to charge, even if the internet connection drops.
- Disabled is the right choice when charging must never happen without control, for example when the grid connection is limited and the charger may only charge with overload protection active.
Choosing the fail-safe maximum current: While offline, the charger does not know how much power the rest of the building uses. Set the fail-safe maximum current low enough that the charger and your other consumers together never exceed your grid connection. Not sure? Ask your installer.
How to set offline charging in the Smappee app
- Open the Smappee app and go to Settings > Charging stations.
- Select your charging station.
- Tap Usage settings, then Offline charging.
- Allow or disable offline charging. When allowed, set the fail-safe maximum current (minimum 6 A).
- Save.
How to set offline charging in the Smappee Dashboard
- Log in to the Smappee Dashboard and open the location.
- Go to the Charger configuration card and open the Configuration tab.
- Under Charging & limits, find Offline charging. It shows Allowed or Disabled. Use the button next to it to change it.
- When offline charging is allowed, click the pencil next to Fail-safe maximum current to change the current (minimum 6 A).
Note: The charger must be online to receive a changed setting. A charger that is offline right now keeps using the setting it had before it went offline.
