General requirements
All installation, maintenance, and repair work on Smappee hardware must be carried out by a qualified professional who has read the relevant documentation and works in compliance with applicable local and national electrical standards. Failure to comply may result in severe injury or hazardous situations.
Adaptors, conversion adaptors, and cord extension sets must never be used.
Before you begin
The electric system must be entirely disconnected from every power source before starting any work. Verify that it is not possible to reconnect the electric current during the intervention.
- Mark the work area with caution tape and warning signs.
- Ensure no unauthorised persons can enter the work area.
Residual charge
Smappee hardware contains electric components that may retain an electrical charge after disconnection. Wait at least 10 seconds after disconnecting power before beginning any work on internal components.
LOTOTO procedure
LOTOTO stands for Lock Out, Tag Out, Try Out. Apply this procedure before every intervention on Smappee hardware without exception.
- Identify all energy sources connected to the device (electrical, stored energy).
- Disconnect all energy sources using the appropriate isolation points.
- Lock out each isolation point using a personal padlock to prevent re-energisation.
- Tag out each lockout point with a warning tag stating the work being performed and the name of the responsible technician.
- Try out by attempting to start or operate the equipment to confirm it is fully de-energised before touching any internal components.
Do not remove locks or tags until the work is fully completed and all personnel are clear of the equipment.
Proceed to your repair article
