Upgrade EV Base to EV Dual Base guide

In this article we describe how to replace a EV Base with a EV Dual Base.

Requirements

  • An EV Base to be replaced
  • An EV Dual Base
  • [EVD-UPGRADE-EVB] Upgrade kit for Wiring - EVB to EVD (​If cables are less than 1.3m (or 4.27 ft))
  • Rock drill (see EV Dual manual)
  • Grinding wheel

Procedure

Same safety instructions as the installation manual for Smappee chargers apply to this operation. 
Carrying out activities on this charging station without the relevant knowledge and qualifications can lead to serious accidents and death. ​

Only carry out tasks for which you are qualified and have been fully instructed. Only certified electricians may carry out the installation, which must be in accordance with the national safety regulations. ​

Fully read and follow the safety instructions from the charger before you install, service or use your charger. Incorrect installation, repairs or modifications can result in danger to the user and may void the warranty and liability​.

Cut off power supply of the EV Base.

 

Step 1 - Decommission the EV Base

  • Remove all 6x screws of the rear plate (2,5mm)

  • Remove the anchor nut on each side at the bottom of the rear plate, and the screw on each side at the bottom of the rear plate.

  • Remove the rear plate

Disconnect the power cables from the RCD on both connector sides (depending on the grid type)

If the EV Base has a bottom plate with cable glands, release the cables from the cable glands

  • Disconnect the RJ45 from the connect

  • If the Evbase has a bottom plate with cable glands, release the RJ45 from the cable gland

Remove the EV Base and its floor plate

 

Step 2 - Prepare the anchors and floor plate

Existing anchors should be either hammered flush in the concrete or cut flush with the concrete (otherwise they will clash with the new base plate provided with EV Dual)

Check the manual of the EV Dual to know how the anchors should be placed.

The first 100 EV Dual units that Smappee Produced have a difference floorplate. be sure to check the floor plate you received with the EV Dual, before removing anchors or drilling holes.

 

Step 3 - Check the cable length (>=1.3m or <1.3m?)

Check power supply cables & network cable length. 

  • If cables are at least 1.3 m (or 4.27 ft), EV Dual can directly be installed following installation manual.​
  • ​If cables are less than 1.3m, the “[EVD-UPGRADE-EVB] Upgrade kit for Wiring - EVB to EVD” is needed.

Step 4 - Assemble EV Dual

Step 5 - [EVD-UPGRADE-EVB] Upgrade kit for Wiring

 

 

 

  • Assemble the DIN rail onto the LED holder plate using the 2x M5 screws and M5 nuts and washers
  • Assemble the 6X Phases, 2x Neutral and 2x Protective Earth terminal clamps (one PE clamp on each side) onto the DIN rail. Assemble the Ethernet coupler onto the DIN rail
  • Connect the existing power cables to the different terminal clamps, and the ethernet cable to the coupler.

 

 

  • Connect the RJ45 cable provided to the coupler, route it through the M20 cable gland and connect it on the bottom left side of the relay board.

Note : cable can be secured to the slots on the LED holder plate

  • Connect the phases, neutral and PE cables provided to the terminal clamps, route them through the M32 cable glands and connect the provided them to the RCBO & PE clamps as instructed in the installation manual

 

Step 6 - Assembly completion
