The Smappee Connect (serial 5130xxxxxx) cannot pick up new Wi-Fi settings by itself. If the network changed, you run the setup again from the Smappee app.
When you need this
Run the setup again if:
- the network name (SSID) or the Wi-Fi password was changed
- the modem or router was replaced or reset
- the monitor was moved to another location
In these situations the monitor keeps trying to reach the network it was configured for, which shows as a red LED.
Before you start
- You need the new network name and password.
- You need to be able to reach the monitor physically, since the procedure starts with a reset on the device.
- Switch off mobile data on your phone. During the procedure your phone connects to the hotspot of the monitor, which has no internet access. With mobile data on, your phone will leave that hotspot and the setup fails.
- On Android, location services must be switched on. Without it, the app cannot see the hotspot.
Note: Measurement data that the monitor has not been able to send yet is lost when you reset it. If the monitor is currently online, there is nothing to worry about. If it has been offline for a while, that stored data will not arrive.
Changing the Wi-Fi settings
- In the Smappee app, go to Settings > Smappee monitors > Infinity modules > select the monitor > Change your setup.
- The app asks you to reset the monitor. Press the reset button on the bottom of the monitor and hold it until the LED turns blue, then release.
- Check that the LED is now flashing blue. That means the monitor is in install mode and is broadcasting its own hotspot. If it is not flashing blue, reboot the monitor by disconnecting the RJ10 cable, plugging it back in, and starting over.
- Connect your phone to the hotspot of the monitor. It is named Smappee followed by the serial number, for example Smappee5130xxxxxx.
- Go back to the app and follow the remaining steps to select the new network and enter the password.
- Wait until the LED shows a green breathing pattern. The monitor is then connected and working correctly.
If something goes wrong during the setup
| What you see | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| Red LED during activation | The Wi-Fi signal is too weak for a stable connection. Move the monitor closer to the router, or improve coverage with a Wi-Fi extender or access point. |
| LED keeps flashing yellow during activation | The network does not meet all requirements. Check them in How should my Network (Wi-Fi and firewall) be configured? |
| The Next button stays greyed out while connected to the hotspot | Check that mobile data is switched off and that location services are switched on. If both are correct, the step may have timed out. Go back one step, select the flashing yellow option again and check whether the Next button appears. |
Still not connected
Contact your installer or submit a request. Include the serial number of the monitor, the LED colour you see, and at which step of the setup it goes wrong.
